Breaking the silence: Let's talk physician suicide

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Compare the prevalence of suicide within the physician population to the general public. (CANmeds roles: medical expert, scholar)

2. Recognize the unique risk factors that contribute to increased risk of suicide among physicians. (CANmeds roles: medical expert, health advocate, scholar)

3. List the behavioural, emotional, and verbal indicators of distress associated with increased risk of suicide.(CANmeds roles: medical expert, health advocate, scholar)

4. Discover practical strategies for checking in on a colleague who may be struggling. (CANmeds: communicator, collaborator, professional)

5. State the resources for mental health support available to physicians.  (CANmeds: health advocate, professional, scholar)
