PUBLIC HEALTH AGENCY OF CANADA: Concussion Awareness Training Tool

The Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT) for Medical Professionals is a series of online educational modules and resources designed to assist medical professionals with providing evidence-based care for patients who have sustained a concussion. CATT is a free online program developed to help physicians:
  • Effectively assess a patient’s concussion situation within the initial hours post-injury.
  • Optimally manage concussion care during the first two-to-four weeks post-injury in order to decrease long-term effects including management of symptoms and return to school, work and play activities.
  • Identify when referral to specialty care is required.
CATT’s development was funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada. It reflects the latest evidence and clinical practice guidelines and addresses the gaps in practice identified in the literature and by clinicians.

PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICE: Recreation Cannabis Public Education

As part of its ongoing public education regarding recreational cannabis use, the Chief Public Health Officer is providing patient education materials (poster and cards) on the health effects of cannabis during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

The materials are available on PEl's Just the Facts website. Also available on the website are a series of factsheets, including for parents on how to talk to youth, for young adults, and one on the laws.

RESEARCH STUDY: The distribution of PEI medical graduates

Physicians are invited to participate in this survey to support a study of the distribution of PEI medical graduates from Memorial University and Dalhousie University medical schools. Based on their chosen location of practice, the study will speculate whether the educational institution and curriculum are influential in these decisions. It will also examine the underlying causes in the difference of distribution of specialties/locations of medical school graduates. The results of this research would be of particular interest to both universities to see how they may be unknowingly influencing their students or to gauge their success if they have a preferred career outcome for their students. The results may also benefit the province of PEI and aid in physician recruitment and retention.

Congratulation to PEI physician, Dr. Helga Reisch-MacNeil, for winning first in the women’s division of this year’s marathon! Kudos to everyone who participated. #healthyliving #beactive @PCHFoundation @Health_PEI @PEIwellness

Retiring doc offers virtual care as a stopgap solution to his patients. It doesn’t replace the need for physician recruitment, but tech can be a powerful tool to help doctors provide patient care. Kudos to Dr. Fox.

Yes, we need more doctors! We are pleased that government is now asking MSPEI and physicians for advice on how we can do better at recruiting doctors to PEI.

We look forward to hearing from you this year, and meeting you at the @Doctors_NS reception in September @VictoriaHowatt

Congratulations to #PEI Medical Students starting school! Your Medical Black Bag will be presented at Welcome Receptions hosted by @Doctors_NS and @_nlma - if you are an Islander starting at a Medical School please contact admin
